Laser Etch
It’s safe. Laser engraving is an abrasion-free, contact-free process that does not require any adjusting or clamping of the material to be engraved. Unlike traditional cutting machines, laser engravers don’t expose users to open, moving parts – making them as safe to use as a CD player or microwave oven.
It’s clean. Clean edges and fine detail aren’t the only things that are "clean" about laser engraving; it’s also better for the environment, especially when combined with one of Trotec’s advanced laser exhaust systems.
It’s fast. Lasers offers the highest speeds on the market for engraving, delivering better productivity and ouput over conventional systems such as saws, routers, etc.
It’s simple. Trotec’s laser engraving machines can be operated with the ease-of-use of a laser printer, using standard graphic layout programs and quick, one-touch commands – and deliver high-quality output whether the user is a novice or a laser engraving expert.
It makes business sense. Laser engraving machines deliver top quality, reliability and power, so even elaborate engraving jobs can be done in a snap.

Why Laser Etch
Laser etch vs. Sandblasting
Laser etch is a natural and permanent process. The method is quite simple; the beam melts the clay of the brick into the desired mark. The mark is smooth, hard, and adhered permanently to the surrounding brick material.
Laser Marking Will Last a Lifetime: Each etch brick is a small monument of memorabilia and will endure for generations. Our laser mark will last as long as the brick itself – we guarantee it.
Laser Marking is Maintenance Free: Due to the nature of the laser etch, the surface of the mark is smooth and hard. Simply wash away dirt and debris to expose a crisp, undamaged mark. The mark will never loose it's clarity or luster.
Unlimited Marking Capabilities: Superior laser technology along with creative ideas results in limitless capabilities. Fonts, logos, clip art, and drawings can be integrated into any campaign.

How to Use an Epilog Laser to Etch Designs and Logos
Attached to your computer just like a printer, the system will cut designs you create in most graphic software programs. Set up your page size to the size of the piece you are etch, create your image, and print it to the laser - it will even cut many of the materials with the same system!
The Advantages of CO2 Laser etch
1.The laser uses a beam of light as the etch tool, so no part of the machinery actually touches the material being etch.
2.You don't need a special system to hold down your etch material, and there are less consumables with an Epilog laser system.
3.Laser etch produces a permanent, crisp, highly detailed mark, etch images at up to 1200 dots per inch.
4.The etch quality is unmatched for reproducing graphics.
5.Lasers provide an extremely fast way to customize your products.

How to Laser Etch Photos
Laser etch use lasers to etch highly detailed graphic images onto materials such as wood, acrylic, coated metals, plastic, glass and stone. The process of laser etch consists of scanning the photo, converting it into a grayscale image and then transferring the image by laser onto the material.
1.
Scan the photo that you want to etch. Choose a high-resolution photo for optimal results.
2
Import the image into the graphics editor software. Modify the page size to match the size of the surface to be etch.
3
Convert the image to grayscale, and refer to your laser system's instruction manual on how to connect the laser system to your computer. Connect the laser system to your computer.
4.
Refer to your laser system's instruction manual on where to place the item you want etch. Place the item inside the laser system and send the print job to the laser system to be etch.
5.
Choose your print option from the laser menu and push the button to start the etch. Refer to your instruction manual on the correct print option for the material you are etch.

Laser Etched Crystal
When it comes to gift giving, few items come close in popularity to a crystal gift. The versatility and affordability of crystal lends it to gift-giving of all varieties. Subsequently, you will often see crystal gifts on the bridal registries of many a newly engaged couple; and it’s no wonder. Dazzling and sophisticated, crystal can decorate a home with classic style or perform a variety of functions with a unique flair.
Nothing matches the versatility of the crystal gift. Crystal, because of its lead content, is softer and more pliable than glassware. Therefore, it can be cut and etched in a variety of creative ways allowing the manufacturer to give it simple, clean lines or distinctive and unusual cuts that throw light in a unique way. Also because of its lead content, crystal has a weight to it that glass does not, giving it a solid kind of elegance.

How to Laser Etch White on Red Engraving Plastic Using CorelDraw
A lot of people have problems with plastics that either have a red or blue top on white or vice versa a white top and either a red or white core. The problem that people have is typically a contamination of the the colour that invades the white and discolours the white.
In some of the earlier days of laser etch I use to have a lot of problems with the Rowmark Lasermark series. However this problem for me has become a non issue since the release of our new Encore laserable product. This product has a very good acrylic core and the pigments from the colours do not migrate like they do on other plastics.
However there is one thing as a laser etchr that you have to do and that is use the least amount of power that you can. This is not only in raster etch but also in vector etch. The problem that people have is that they use way to much power. In this video I am going at 100% speed, 19% power and 600 DPI on a 60 watt laser. DO NOT USE WHAT YOUR LASER SUPPLIER SAYS – TEST YOUR MATERIALS WITH YOUR LASER.

New Opportunities for your Business With the Innovative Technologies of Laser Cutting and Laser Etch
In this type of manufacturing, the technology is computer-generated, and it means that the output of a powerful laser is being directed towards the material that needs to be cut. The result is the transformation of the material according to its composition (i.e. it can burn, melt or vaporize away) and a surface finish of high quality. Industrial laser cutting is mainly concerned with cutting piping and structural materials, as well as flat-sheet material.
The advantages that laser cutting holds over the traditional mechanical cutting are numerous. For instance, the lack of any physical contact is probably the most important advantage, or at least as important as precision, given by the fact that there is no wear on the laser. Furthermore, the heat affected zone that lasers have is significantly smaller, which means that the chances of warping the material are also reduced.
A similar process to laser cutting is laser etch; the most notable difference between the two procedures is that, in the latter, the material is not fully cut through by the laser. As the name describes it, laser etch refers to objects being etchd or marked using a laser.
Some materials have been specially designed to be used in laser cutting, laser etch, or similar procedures, in which the use of laser is involved. Such materials include novel metal alloys or polymers, and given their “laserable” nature, the effect of laser etch was all the more notable.

What kind of measures can be adopted when the scrawling happened during the etch process?
The reasons and solutions to the above phenomonon:
1.the settings of the software are unproper, and the tool nose compensation is unclosed (it can be opened only when the character size is less than 1cm and the etch speed is low. Make sure the compensation parameters are proper).
2.the parallel and the serial prot has been connected at the same time; you can remove one of the connecting manner.
3.the outputting of the etch documents has been broken off without being outputted completely.
4.(connecting to the above) the reason may be some operations have been done to the keyboard during the transitting process.
5. the etch software has been damaged, or the computer has infectted virus. To this matter, you can reinstall the software, killing the virus before reinstalling with authorised anti-virus softwares if there are virus in it.
6. the machine has been disturbed by the electric welding, wireless station, machine tool or other power-drive tools. The parellel communicating way is relatively sensitive to external disturbance, if your machine is in a sorrouding where there are strong external disturbance, we suggested you to adopt the serial communicating manner.
7. the machine has been equipped with the unproper stabilized voltage supply, such as the domestic relay or stabilized voltage supply, in these conditions, there will be strong disturbance at the exact moment of the relas make-and-break, and therefore leading to wrong communicating data.
8.the RAM or its birdle wire are not inserted well, or being damaged. Call the seller to repair or chang it for you.

5. the etch software has been damaged, or the computer has infectted virus.

What is a laser etch?
We use state of the art, high speed laser machines - we use both co2 and an nd:YAG for best results on a variety of materials - for cutting and etch. This is a no contact method of etch, which means we can etch onto surfaces that would otherwise be unengravable!
We also perform Quality Control all items that go through our system - and we guarantee top quality on your gifts!
Yes, we can laser etch color on some items. Wood looks especially nice with color added - we can add color for some logos and text. Please call or e-mail to discuss with a friendly sales rep at 877-365-2737. We use several methods, including color fill paint, color foils and wood inlays.
Laser etch is different than screen printing, or a method of decoration which wears off over time; laser etch is uniquely permanent since it etches the surface of the item being etch.
On anodized aluminum, laser etch comes out frosty white. On wood, it will turn a rich dark color. On marble, it comes out frosty white. On stainless steel, the resulting etch is black. etch onto plastic will result in the underlying coating color.

DIY Laser Etch
1.Decide on a laser etchr to fit your needs. Lower priced "starter" laser etchrs are suitable for small business use or if you only plan to do a small to moderate amount of etch.
2.Choose a graphic design software program and install the software.
3.Hook up the laser etchr to the computer. Turn the laser etchr system off and connect a USB cable from your computer into the USB port located on the right side of the etchr near the back.
4.The Dashboard print driver should be included on a CD-ROM with your laser etchr. This is how the laser etchr sends signals to your computer through the USB cable. Set up the IP address on the laser etchr. Set up the IP address on your computer in the Local Area Connection icon; choose the IP address that corresponds with the laser etchr system you purchased.
5.Use your downloaded graphic design software to create the design you would like to etch.
6.Using your dashboard print driver, center your design, logo, or letters. Measure how much space is needed and define within the driver. Set the print parameters to match the size of the materials. Place the material in the laser etchr and activate the Red Dot Pointer from the dashboard driver.
7.Acrylic and wood are the most popular materials to be etch. When etch acrylics, the back of the material is commonly used; remember to reverse your artwork before printing to mirror the design.
8.Use a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol to remove smoke and debris from the table after every use. Clean mirrors and lenses using a cotton swab and an optics cleaner; pure ethyl alcohol works well as an optics cleaner.

How to Laser Etch CDs
At the turn of the millennium, the next big thing in computers was being able to create your own CDs at home. A computer with a LightScribe enabled CD-R/RW drive is required to laser etch CDs. You can tell if your computer has a LightScribe CD drive by looking for the LightScribe logo on the front of the CD-ROM drive .
1.Power on your computer and insert a LightScribe CD, colored side down.
LightScribe CDs aren't the normal variety of CD. The colored side of the disc is actually etched by the LightScribe CD drive's laser, which eventually becomes your custom label. The LightScribe drive is not able to etch anything onto the top of a standard CD, you must buy LightScribe discs.
2.Open the LightScribe Template Labeler. If you don't currently have this software installed on your computer, get it from the download section of the LightScribe.com website.
3.Select the template you wish to etch on your CD. You can narrow your options by clicking the drop down menu in the templates section and selecting from the categories provided.
4.Add individual images, if you wish. These images can be in the form of clip art provided by the program or your own photos stored on your computer.
5.Preview the label to be sure it is what you want. Once the image is etchd on the CD, it cannot be altered or undone.
6.Click "Print" on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. This will begin the laser etch process and produce your custom label.

Marking/Etch
Laser marking is a process of creating surface contrast using a range of physical effects, whereas laser etch creates surface contrast by removing certain (typically .005 to .02") depth of material.
Physical effects, enabling laser marking, include:
Surface oxidation at laser induced elevated temperatures (marking stainless steel, titanium, wood, and most plastics.)
Ablation of low thermally conductive coating on substrate with high thermal conductivity (marking anodized aluminum, silicon nitride)
Thermally induces surface cracks (marking glass)
Change of surface roughness after local melting and re-solidification ( marking Al2O3/SiN ceramics, silicon, gold, platinum, some plastics)
Deposition of target material on a marking material (marking quartz wafer using ceramic target and inverted material transfer)
Applications:
LLTI can mark any shape or illustration, identification, and a variety of Automatic ID codes, including but not limited to Data Matrix, Dot Matrix, Code 3 of 9, Interleaved 2 of 5 and many others.

The Advantages of CO2 Laser etch
The Advantages of CO2 Laser etch
The laser uses a beam of light as the etch tool, so no part of the machinery actually touches the material being etchd.
You don't need a special system to hold down your etch material, and there are less consumables with an Epilog laser system.
Laser etch produces a permanent, crisp, highly detailed mark, etch images at up to 1200 dots per inch.
The etch quality is unmatched for reproducing graphics.
Lasers provide an extremely fast way to customize your products. With a laser system, if you want to etch multiple pieces, you can quickly create a jig to hold the products in place, put the jig in the laser, and etch as many pieces as fit in the etchtable.
Image to Etch in a Few Easy Steps
The following few steps will walk you through the simple process of setting up a job to be laser etchd. We chose a photograph to show how easy it can be to etch practically any image. Scanned photographs, corporate logos, clipart or custom artwork can be used for "printing" to the laser. Instead of transferring ink to paper, the laser etchs your image into wood, acrylic, coated metals, plastic, glass and a wide variety of other compatible materials. Set up your artwork, print it to the laser, then press the GO button. You'll be amazed at how easy it is!

Industrial applications--laser etch
Direct laser etch of flexographic plates and cylinders
Direct laser etch of flexographic printing cylinders and plates has been an established process since the 1970s. This first began with the use of a carbon dioxide laser used to selectively ablate or evaporate a variety of rubber plate and sleeve materials to produce a print ready surface without the use of photography or chemicals.
Before the year 2000 lasers only produced lower quality in rubber-like materials. In these rubber-like materials, which had a rough structure, higher quality was impossible. Since the year 2000 fiber lasers have been introduced to give an much increased etch quality direct into black polymeric materials.
Direct photopolymer laser imaging
closely related is the direct imaging of a digital flexo plates or sleeves 'in-the-round' on a fast-rotating drum, or cylinder. This is carried out on a platesetter integrated within a digital prepress workflow, that also supports digital proofing. Again, this is a filmless process, which removes one of the variables in obtaining the fine and sharp dots for screened affects, including process color printing.
laser etch of anilox rolls
Prior to 1980 anilox rolls were produced by a variety of mechanical processes. These metal anilox rolls were sometimes sprayed with ceramic to prolong their life in the flexographic printing press.
Sub-surface laser etch (SSLE)
Sub-surface laser etch is the process of etch an image below the surface of a solid material, usually glass, with an optical clarity to minimize distortion of the laser.

Jewelry-laser etch
The demand for personalized jewelry has made jewelers more aware of the benefits of the laser etch process.
Jewelers found that by using a laser, they could tackle an etching task with greater precision. In fact, jewelers discovered that laser etch allowed for more precision than other types of etch. At the same time, jewelers discovered that laser applied etchs had a number of other desirable features.
At one time jewelers who attempted to do laser etch did need to use large pieces of equipment. Now the devices that perform laser etch come in desktop units. Some entrepreneurs have placed such units in mall kiosks. That has made laser etch jewelry much more accessible. The makers of machines for laser etch jewelry have developed some very specialized equipment. They have designed machines that can etch the inside of a ring. They have also created machines that have the ability to etch the back of a watch.
A laser can cut into both flat and curved surfaces. Jewelry contains both flat and curved surfaces. That points-up the reason why jewelers have welcomed all the adaptations for the creation of laser etch jewelry.

Materials that can be etched
Natural materials
Directly "burning" images on wood were some of the first uses of etch lasers. The laser power required here is often less than 10 watts depending on the laser being used as most are different.Paper masking tape is sometimes used as a pre-etch overcoat on finished and resiny woods so that cleanup is a matter of picking the tape off and out of the unetchd areas, which is easier than removing the sticky and smoky surround "halos" (and requires no varnish-removing chemicals).
Plastics
Standard cast acrylic plastic, acrylic plastic sheet, and other cast resins generally laser very well. A commonly etchd award is a cast acrylic shape designed to be lasered from the back side. Often the laser etch is followed by paint filling the etchd surface to produce more contrast between the etchd surface and the surrounding surface.
Metals
Laser on Stainless Steel (SS316L)
The best traditional etch materials started out to be the worst laser-engravable materials. This problem has now been solved using lasers at shorter wavelengths than the traditional 10,640 nm wavelength CO2 laser.
Coated metals
However, the same conduction that works against the spot vaporization of metal is an asset if the objective is to vaporize some other coating away from the metal. laser etch metal plates are manufactured with a finely-polished metal, coated with an enamel paint made to be "burned off".
Stone and glass
Stone and glass do not turn gaseous very easily. As expected, this makes them generally a better candidate for other means of etch, most notably sandblasting or cutting using diamonds and water.

Laser etch machines
A laser etch machine can be thought of as three main parts: a laser, a controller, and a surface. The laser is like a pencil - the beam emitted from it allows the controller to trace patterns onto the surface.
There are three main genres of etch machines: The most common is the X-Y table where, usually, the workpiece (surface) is stationary and the laser optics move around in X and Y directions, directing the laser beam to draw vectors. Sometimes the laser is stationary and the workpiece moves. Sometimes the workpiece moves in the Y axis and the laser in the X axis.
The point where the laser (the terms "laser" and "laser beam" may be used interchangeably) touches the surface should be on the focal plane of the laser's optical system, and is usually synonymous with its focal point. This point is typically small, perhaps less than a fraction of a millimeter (depending on the optical wavelength). Only the area inside this focal point is significantly affected when the laser beam passes over the surface.
A laser can remove material very efficiently because the laser beam can be designed to deliver energy to the surface in a manner which converts a high percentage of the light energy into heat. The beam is highly focused and collimated - in most non-reflective materials like wood, plastics and enamel surfaces, the conversion of light energy to heat is more than {x%} efficient {example reference needed}. However, because of this efficiency, the equipment used in laser etch may heat up rather quickly. Elaborate cooling systems are required for the laser.
Raster etch traces the laser across the surface in a back-and-forth slowly-advancing linear pattern that will remind one of the printhead on an inkjet or similar printer. The pattern is usually optimized by the controller/computer so that areas to either side of the pattern which aren't to be etchd are ignored and the trace across the material is thus shortened for better efficiency. While traditional sign and plaque etch tended to favor the solid strokes of vectors out of necessity, modern shops tend to run their laser etchrs mostly in raster mode, reserving vector for a traditional outline "look" or for speedily marking out lines or "hatches" where a plate is to be cut.

Laser etch
laser etch is the practice of using lasers to etch or mark an object. The technique does not involve tool bits which contact the etch surface and wear out. This is considered an advantage over alternative etch technologies where bit heads have to be replaced regularly.
The impact of laser etch has been more pronounced for specially-designed "laserable" materials. These include polymer and novel metal alloys.
In situations where physical alteration of a surface by etch is undesirable, an alternative such as "marking" is available. This is a generic term that covers a broad spectrum of surfacing techniques including printing, hot-branding and laser bonding. In many instances, laser etch machines are able to do marking that would have been done by other processes.
